Adversity #4 – Financial Troubles

I’ve got’em. Maybe, you do too.
At this time of year many of you are reeling from an expensive Christmas gift giving season. You approach November saying, “I’m not going to do that again.” But, you did. I’m right there with you.
I’ve got reasons, really excuses, for all of my expenses. Some of them are unavoidable Some of them I failed to prepare my family. Some of them are inexcusable.
It’s time to own up to all of this. It’s time to meet this beast head on. It’s time to quit blaming someone else. It’s time.
Fortunately, I know my problem and have identified it. Have you?
Are you following certain principles about…
how much you spend?
how much you save?
how much you give?
Do you just plan to work until you die and you’re at peace with that?
what if you’re disabled?
what if others around you are in need?
how can you tell if you’re in trouble?
Are you just hoping to hit the lottery? Do you really think that would last?
I’ll be the first to admit that I probably have more questions than answers when it comes to this topic. In a strange sort of way, this makes me an expert. Funny, huh? I know many of the tricks on how you can fool yourself and reason why you should make a certain purchase.
This takes a stomach and a true desire. Even then, it won’t be easy.

Brian, thanks for your transparency on this issue. My family went through Financial Peace University by Dave Ramsey, followed the baby steps as set forth by the program, and the results have been life changing! You can attend a class or watch the DVDs (we watched and discussed them as a family). I highly recommend FPU!
Matthew, thanks for the note. Believe it or not, I have loosely followed Dave Ramsey for the past 10 years. Unfortunately, I fell off the wagon. You’re right, we need to get back on the wagon. I appreciate your thoughts.
