I couldn’t believe she said that
It sometimes takes a child to point out somethings that should be obvious.
In her Father’s Day letter, my 13 year old daughter told me that I should stop comparing myself to other people. “Sure, other people’s dads are great. They’re younger than you. they’re sportier, and funner …” I wasn’t really sure where she was going with this. Where she was going, was that I should stop comparing myself to other people. What they are doesn’t matter.
“But you’ve got something that they don’t have… Bravery” She thinks I’m brave. I’m scared as hell.
The next point was that I “inspire her.” What? How can that be? I’m just trying to survive and, someday, support my family again. How can I be an inspiration to anyone? She told me how I inspire her, by living.
She told me to keep faith in God. That is where my real strength comes from. Regardless of what you’re going through. Never lose sight of that. (pun intended)
In summation, she frankly said, “I’d take that over a dad with two good eyes any day!” It doesn’t matter how many eyes I have. It doesn’t matter how much money I make or what kind of house we live in.
What matters is that I’m her dad!
She’s the best! So are you!
What can you do to make your day better?
