Things that must be done

Being an entrepreneur is fun. It’s exciting. Who wouldn’t like to be their own boss? Who wants to be a hamster on a wheel?
The advantages definitely outweigh the disadvantages. You get to be your own boss and work the hours that you want to. You can sleep in or stay up late. Have a beer at lunch or play a round of golf. You can go for a drive or go to work (i.e. the basement). You could even take a nap if you wanted to.
But, there is a downside. You still have to be useful and create. You still have to make money. It’s the world’s currency/reward for positive and negative action. If you do good work you are rewarded. If you do bad work or break the laws you are fined.
- My wife still expects me to make money. We both like to eat.
- Then there’s our kids. They are almost old enough to take care of themselves. In a pinch, they could. But, I have no desire to pinch them.
- Oh yea, then there’s the house. The cars. The phones. The electricity. The internet. The list goes on.
It’s true that I’m an entrepreneur and I love it. However, to be successful you have to do certain things. You might be asking, “what are these things that you talk about?”. There are so many things to do in order to be successful, how do I prioritize them?
This is quite simple.
As one of my speaker friends says (and he probably got this from someone else), “there are things that could be done, there are things that should be done, and things that must be done.”
There are things that could be done
…that should be done
…that MUST be done
These three things are different for everyone. Do you know what to do?
I know what to do.
Now, I just need to do it.
